Taliban: Uyghur militants of ETIM left Afghanistan

The Uyghur militants of the East Turkistan Islamic Movement or (Turkistan Islamic Party) have left Afghanistan, the Taliban leaders told Chinese nationalist tabloid Global Times in a recent interview, indicating that the Taliban have already acted in response to the Chinese government's request.

In an interview with Global Times, Taliban spokesperson Suhail Shaheen said that after the Doha Agreement, many ETIM members departed Afghanistan since they were told that no one could use Afghanistan against other countries.

Last Friday, Zhao Lijian, a spokeswoman for China's foreign ministry, said Beijing had taken note of the Taliban spokesman's interview.

"China hopes that the Taliban honor their words and make a clean break with the ETIM and other terrorist groups and take effective measures in its territory to resolutely crackdown on those terrorist organizations," Zhao said.

Following the Taliban takeover, China offered aid to Afghanistan, and the Taliban announced that China is their most important partner.
